Results your skin can tolerate.
Tolerance-first acne, to the FDA monograph.
High-performance blemish care built on two disciplines: skin tolerance, and a clear line between a cosmetic and a drug. We formulate OTC acne treatments to the FDA monograph and cosmetic blemish-prone systems that stay in the appearance lane, and we keep the two from blurring, on the label and in the lab.
What We Formulate
- OTC acne treatments, built to the monograph: salicylic acid systems at well-tolerated levels, with benzoyl peroxide available where a brand's product and claims call for it.
- Cosmetic blemish-prone systems: appearance-focused ingredients formulated for the look of clearer, calmer, more even skin, kept in the cosmetic claim lane.
- Tolerance-first delivery: actives that work without the stinging, peeling, and over-drying that make people quit a routine.
- Stability and irritation optimization: a core discipline, not an afterthought.
- Formats: Rinse-off (cleansers and washes) and leave-on (serums, gels, lightweight moisturizers, targeted treatments), plus cosmetic blemish-prone skin systems.
Benzoyl Peroxide, Formulated With the Benzene Question in Mind
Benzoyl peroxide is one of the most effective acne actives there is, and we formulate with it when a brand wants it. We also take seriously what recent testing made clear: BPO can degrade into trace benzene, a known carcinogen, under heat or over time, and benzene can enter a formula through certain thickeners and ingredient combinations, not the active alone.
So when BPO is on the brief, we treat benzene as something to engineer against, not a headline to wait out: considered choices about the BPO grade, the thickening system, antioxidants, and packaging to reduce the conditions it forms under, and finished-product testing for benzene impurities through outside labs that specialize in it, using validated methods of the kind expected for an OTC drug.
This is not a promise that benzene is impossible. It is that a BPO product we make is formulated to minimize it and tested to confirm it, so the claim on your label is backed by data, not assumption.
OTC or Cosmetic: Two Lanes, Kept Distinct
In the US, “acne treatment” is a drug claim. It belongs to OTC products built on monograph actives, benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid among them, formulated and labeled to the FDA acne monograph. Those products can say they treat acne, because the framework backs it.
Everything else is cosmetic, and cosmetic products make appearance claims: the look of clearer skin, visibly fewer blemishes, a more even tone. A cosmetic blemish product can do real work on how skin looks, it just can't claim to treat acne, since that crosses into drug territory.
We decide which lane a product is in before we formulate it, because the lane drives the active, the level, the testing, and the words on the label. Keeping them distinct is how your claims survive a retailer's review and a regulator's eye.
Why This Category Is Hard
The category forces a false choice: performance that irritates, or comfort that underdelivers. Consumers feel it, and they abandon whatever makes them pick. Our work is refusing that tradeoff, finding the level and the system where a product performs and stays tolerable, so it actually gets used.
Acne actives are easy to add and hard to live with. Push the percentage and you get results no one will tolerate; pull it back for comfort and the product underdelivers. The work is finding the level and the system where it actually performs and people actually keep using it.
Tolerance is the whole game: an active that stings, peels, or over-dries gets abandoned, and an abandoned product doesn't work no matter how strong it is. We build for skin that's reactive, congested, or already irritated from the last thing it tried.
Proof & Rigor
The differentiator here isn't the active list, anyone can put salicylic acid on an ingredient deck. It's the tolerance-first system around it, the stability and benzene discipline behind it, and the proof under any claim you make.
Salicylic acid's activity depends on how much sits in its free-acid form, which pH controls. We formulate to a target pH that keeps the acid effective while managing irritation, inside the labeled concentration the monograph allows.
When a claim needs substantiation, we map the proof plan to the claims you intend to make and run it through independent third-party labs, on your finished formula, not an ingredient's data sheet.
Under One Owned Roof
Formulation, stability, OTC and regulatory coordination, and production all stay under one owned US roof, with direct access to the chemists developing your product. Benzene and analytical testing run through qualified outside labs that specialize in it. Your formula and data aren't brokered through an offshore network.
Bring us the blemish product that has to hold up, and hold its claims.
An OTC acne treatment, a cosmetic clarity system, or a reformulation that has to clear a retailer's review, bring it, and we'll map the lane, the actives, the testing (benzene included), and what it takes to prove and scale it.
